Interesting how the Audi and BMW models hold their value a little better than the Mercedes overall. The Mercedes also seems to be the most plentiful. There are about 100 used S600s for sale on AutoTrader, vs. about 50 760Lis and only 30 A8L W12s.

I’ll wait a few more years for that Audi to drop a little more.

They're all a bit to drug dealer-y for my tastes, but I'd have to go with the BMW.

4. 1994 XJ12 , 40,000 miles - $6,900

Then negotiate $600 off and use the remainder on this 1990 XJS V12 , 51,800 - $13,700

My neighborhood would be a lot more interesting if that's what our drug dealers drove! Lots of questionable Escalades around here.

The Mercedes was generally considered the better car back in the day. More new features never seen in a car before, better performance figures from the twin turbo V12. The W engine was considered too weird and the 7er was still suffering from the electical legacy of the pre-facelift, which was actually worse than the pre-facelift W220 legacy for electrical issues.

Hence, of the very few people capable of dropping $150,000 pre-crash money on a 12 cylinder barge, most bought the Mercedes. There are more of them out there for irresponsible owners to own for 6 months then kick back out onto the market after the first breakdown.

The 7 is pug ugly, so it’s out. I don’t really care for Audis that much, but the W12 is interesting. I’ve always liked V12 Benzes, so that’s the one. Black w/ black leather, please.

10000% the Mercedes. Buddy of mine has an S600 V12 biturbo and it’s a hell of a car.

If I had to choose it would be the Audi. We’ve had 4 other of the breed in the family and I’ve worked on them for 20+ yrs. I have a natural ability to figure out the Teutonic reasoning behind most any assembly and have tackled 4 cam timing belt jobs, engine swaps and hunting electrical demons without any fear. It might be a challenge fitting it into my garage but I could handle it.

Also losing 2+ quarts of oil nightly and smoking profusely when they run...yeah, those. There’s one particular driveway I’d LOVE to photograph for you guys but I dont think its safe.

I’ve already made my decision and you couldn’t pay me to get rid of my S600. As Landyacht once said “its intoxicating”. That being said, while I don’t know much about the Audi, I can say with reasonable conviction that the S will be cheaper to run compares to the 760. The E65 7 series is just a shitshow.

Really quite a lot. A bare minimum would be about $4,000 a year on repairs alone, though I came closer to $6,000 last year.

bah, you don’t always need special tools. Half the guys who do Audi 2.7 and 2.8 don’t even know there are timing marks on top of the bearing caps and cams if the valve covers are removed. I may be a parts guy but I’ve wrenched on my own cars since I was 15. Got my first car (Fiat) before my license.
